German industry worried by lack of progress at UN climate talks

The Federation of German Industries (BDI) has urged delegates at the UN climate conference COP24 in Poland to ensure progress is made in international talks on climate action. 鈥淭he German industry is very worried about the stalled progress at the climate talks,鈥 BDI head Dieter Kempf said in a press release. The gap between the ambitions voiced by the signatories to the Paris Climate Agreement and the measures taken is still very large and a rulebook on the agreement is now overdue, Kempf argued. 鈥淓ffective monitoring, transparency rules and an agreement on international cooperation possibilities are key for the climate and for Germany鈥檚 industry,鈥 he added. There now had to be an 鈥渦nparalleled鈥 initiative to increase investment in more climate-friendly technologies, Kempf said.
