German carmakers discover Formula E racing series as e-car development lab

Carmakers in Germany are increasingly ramping up their activities in the Formula E racing series as a 鈥渢echnology laboratory鈥 for new developments in electric mobility, J眉rgen Pander writes on Spiegel Online. 鈥淭he Formula E has replaced the Formula 1 series in terms of technology transfer,鈥 Pander says. While car companies BMW, Daimler and Audi are already active in the electric racing series that has lived 鈥渁 shadowy existence鈥 for years, the envisaged wave in e-car production has made the Formula E more attractive and is set to also include luxury carmaker Porsche, which like others hopes that their activities in the Formula E will bring 鈥渋mportant impulses for our serial production of the future鈥.
