Solar home storage company Sonnen certified to provide control energy
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
Transmission grid operator Tennet has certified the solar power home battery producer Sonnen to become a control energy provider for the German power grid, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports. 鈥淲e are writing energy history by showing that not only big power plants are capable of balancing fluctuations in the power grid,鈥 said Sonnen CEO Jean-Baptiste Cornefert. The Bavarian company connects 30,000 households, which together form Germany鈥檚 largest 鈥榲irtual battery鈥 for solar power. With a capacity of 300 megawatt hours (MWh), Sonnen鈥檚 decentralised storage community theoretically can provide power to 120,000 households for one hour, an equally powerful but more flexible alternative to balance grid fluctuations than an average coal plant, the article says.
