German government rejects financial evaluation of individual Energiewende targets

The German government does not plan to introduce quantitative controlling standards for the energy transition. In an answer to a parliamentary inquiry by the pro-business party FDP, the government said 鈥渋t is not appropriate to reduce every target of the energy policy target triangle [sustainability, affordability, supply security] to an ostensibly suitable number.鈥 The FDP inquired on the government鈥檚 reaction to a monitoring report by Germany鈥檚 Court of Auditors, which called for a more cost-efficient management of Germany鈥檚 energy transition, the Energiewende. The government said the target triangle 鈥渋s formulated in the sense of framework conditions鈥 and the monitoring report therefore did not evaluate the development of individual targets. Instead, the report 鈥渞ather looks at several indicators, including qualitative ones, which together provide an adequate assessment of the target achievement.鈥
