ā€œThe diesel fairy taleā€

tageszeitung (taz)

Diesel cars use more fuel and thus emit more COā‚‚ than carmakers specify, according to previously unreleased test results by Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), reports Bernhard Pƶtter for tageszeitung (taz). In the course of investigations surrounding NOx emissions from diesel cars in 2016, KBA also examined COā‚‚ emissions and found that they were 10 to 36 percent higher than specified in the 30 inspected models, according to documents seen by taz. Tests were carried out according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), not real-life conditions, writes Pƶtter. Until now, the transport ministry has not published the 2016 findings on COā‚‚ emissions. VW confirmed that they adjusted their models’ specifications in reaction to the KBA’s test results.
